Controlling another Laptop/PC using 1:1 LAN

Previously I've posted about how to connect two PCs/Laptops using LAN, read about it here.

The connection established using that method can be used to control one Station using another.

You need the software called UltraVNC. Nice & easy to use, this app can be obtained freely using internet. The setup is pretty straightforward. If you want optimized connection use the downloads that the setup talks about. After that you can configure the PC you are trying to CONTROL FROM using this page. Only the first part will do. Ofcourse you need UltraVNC up and running on both the systems. Then just type in the IP address of the Station you want to control in the very first blank space and press "Connect". You should see the screen of the other PC. Probably with the wallpaper gone.

Problems: Everything is good and great except the mouse is weird in screens that are not in the same resolution. Which means playing pointer based games is an "Oh no!".

Connecting 2 PCs or Laptops using a LAN cable alone

It's a tutorial I wrote for my future frustration recoveries. It's pretty easy and lots of tutorials are avaible if you aren't clever enough. But most of them forget to mention things or are not universal for all the cases. I have done this so many times. Yet, I had to figure out a way this time myself even when I used one of those tutorials.

Well, first off you need a LAN cable. Both of your PCs must have LAN connectivity and atleast one of them must have modern/advanced (basically supporting MD/x) LAN card because sometimes the cable type becomes a headache. I seriously never cared about what cable I had. But MD/x enabled LAN cards can make do with any situation.

Alright, now for the settings in the PCs. Do this on both.

1. Go to My Computer (don't try to use the old joke here), Right Click > Properties.
2. Click the tab "Computer Name" click "Change".
3. Name it anything but must select the radio button "Workgroup" and name the group "WORKGROUP'.
4. Go to Control Panel. Select Windows Firewall and turn it off.
5. Go to your Network Connections and select the Local Area Connection. If you don't have one try connecting both the PCs using the cable. Right click on it and select Properties.
6. In the "This connection uses the following items" box select only these four and deselct all the others.
a. Client for Microsoft Networks
b. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
c. QoS Packet Scheduler
d. Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
I don't know how important this is but let's just do this for now. Cuz, it helped me have my connection working
7. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click Properties button. Make these changes and nothing else.
For PC 1:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.2
For PC 2:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

8. It's just a statement, you might need to restart both the PCs.
9. After that's all done go to My Network Places > Entire Network > Workgroup. I hope you have them both, at least the "Shared Documents" folder from both.

You can do Multiplayer gaming via this connection as I have done. My old rig can't run today's gems so I tried Moto Racer, Futurecop. The protocol I used was Internet TCP/IP. Think it will work for all the cases.

Types of Facebook users

Facebook is a site which is filled with stereo-typical ppl!!
Here`s a list of fb-stereotypes lurking around FB~
surely you would identify some of your friends with these....and if u r a FB addict,u might even identify yourself with one of them Wink

1. The emotional attayachar

There is always this one guy who writes in his status about how sad his break up was or how the one girl he loves doesn`t even know he existed! Such people even tend to write poems on their grief

2.Ugly people who used to look cute when they were kids:

Such people never upload their personal photos on FB....EVER! and after staying on Fb for a couple of weeks, they would upload a photo of theirs when they used to be a 3 yr old kid.
They think it would look cute but its actually disgusting!

3.The gamer:

The farmville, mafia wars, yoville etc etc addicts come under this category! I have reached 12`th level of gayville...i have reached 12 1/2 `th level of gayville...they need to publish each and every thing about their activities in these APPS to lure people to join and help harvest their crops(craps)

4.The lesbian:

Surely one of the worst of all! These are girls who upload cartoon pictures in their album and TAG every tom, dick and harry in it. Their other girl friends(bff) posts comments under it like "ohh shooo cuteee" "you rock girl" "i ♥ u" etc
Further more such girls tend to post status messages on how rockin their life style is...or how they had so much fun in last night`s party!

5.Tweets like a tiger but talks like a pussycat:

These are people who post well rehearsed-brave thoughts on social and political issues just to how fuckin` awesome their attitude is. They claim to be individual and brave...so brave that they post status and twitter updates cause they are too scared to stand up to person in real life.

6. The Betal:

These are people who follow around whatever you do in facebook. They comment or like each and every status of yours.

7.The News reporter:

"omg michaeeelllllll jackson is dead Sad(( RIP Sad((( " "omg its first death anniversary of michaelllllll rip Sad((((" Such people are the ones who browse around net or news channel and when they get any info about anyone popular...the first thing they do is post a status update with couple of smileys in it.It is because of people like these that most of us youths get to know about breaking news around the world through facebook/twitter and not through tv.These people will see to it that they are the first ones to upload breaking news on their status.

8.The types who publish about every minute of their life:

"just had breakfast! yummyyy" "on my way to college sigh Sad " "got a text from my bf blush blush" "nowplaying-ringa ringa roses"
They just want the whole world to know each and every detail of their pathetic boring life!

9. The frannnnndshippers:
These are those hippies in facebook who randomly add or randomly accept anyone and everyone in facebook, these people tend to have as much as 2000 friends in their list! What r u? johnny depp???Mostly such people`s popularity in real world is inversely proportional to the number of friends they have in facebook

10.The Cryto-types:-
They are the worst!! These are people who type cryptic status messages to lure people to comment under their status. "ooohhh got a luv letter from a certain someone :'> " "blah blah blah, status dedicated to the one i love Smile"

11. The comment attackers:
They just always have negative or contras for you in their comments. They just can't control posting a contradiction.

These are people who write supposedly mysterious status messages in order to get comments like "wowww who is he/she?" under their status messages. Such people even tend to wait for minutes refreshing their status page repeatedly to check if they have got any comments!!!

There you go!!
These are ten kinds of stereo-types i have personally observed while using facebook.

Accessing Application Data in Windows 7

I was having problems finding the "Application Data" folder in Windows 7. It was interesting to know that to implement backward compatibility, Microsoft has used a simple approach. They created shortcuts that act like virtual folders which ultimately redirect XP Applications to access the antique way. The original folders are in" C:\Users\\".
To access Application Data you go to "AppData\Roaming" there.

Dream State, bad ofcourse

There's a Math Class Test today, at 12:00. I woke at 11:00. I had the topics prepared, worked damn hard for it (Comparing the way I give damn to studies). But I didn't want to go to that exam for an unknown reason. It just felt so boring. I mean, getting on a Rickshaw, waiting for that to stop at the same busy, boring Gulzar Square and after some steps I'm at the same boring classroom with my pals that are waiting for this day to end. Why this has to be this way? I dreamed of studying Computer Science, not "Copy-the-formulas" sessions. Believe me, they are not even close to tests. Throughout my life, I've enjoyed tests. But this is something else. And the whole course. For the last 6 months I'm extremely bored of being in sessions where the main goal is to know how the questions will be picked from among those huge number of topics. I've handled it before but this seems as if I'm in a dream state. Like I should be forgetting these things in a couple of days.
Before exams you get some question structure, how the marks are distributed.
You get some handout notes and bunch of slides.
There's a list or recommended books but let's not look at them except the one the tutor is using.
Everyday, 9-5 PM, you sit on your sorry a** and hope to make it through the day.
Never think too much about how things happened just read them you only need it for a day or two.

What's the point?
